The Music Business of Aarhus Municipality
Background
Within just a few years, Silverlining Research has conducted a number of studies on the music scene in Aarhus. These include ‘The Value of Music’ commissioned by Promus and an evaluation of Music City Aarhus 22. In the summer of 2025, Aarhus Municipality commissioned an analysis of the music industry in the municipality.
The purpose of the study was to uncover the status of the music profession in Aarhus, including the provision of facilities that support the music profession, current initiatives and potential strategies for the municipality, Aarhus’ branding and reputation as a city of music, and more.
Method
The study of the music industry in Aarhus is based on a cross-methodological approach. Knowledge and insights from in-depth and thorough desk research have been supplemented with in-depth interviews with key players in the Aarhus music scene.
Results
The study shows that the music industry in Aarhus Municipality is generally healthy, with a strong range of facilities and educational opportunities. With strong collaborations and networks and a generally high profile as a city of music, the music industry in Aarhus is thriving. However, there is room for improvement, and these have been compiled into a series of concrete and action-oriented recommendations delivered to Aarhus Municipality.
